Endocrine System: Insulin Devices Practical. (21st August)

Well, the best part of this practical was that we got the insulin devices (placebo) for FREE!!! Never regret of going IMU today. Ha-ha…

The disposable needle, NovoLet (placebo), FlexPen (placebo), and the vials for NovoPen 3.

We learned about the rationale of treatment for diabetes, different pharmacokinetic profiles of different types of insulin, and also the different insulin devices that are available in the market. For your information, the main reason to have so many types of insulin devices is just to improve the patient’s compliance, in order to prevent further complications.

Not forgetting to prick our abdomen (whole class was doing that!) with the silicon-coated hair-like needle. Well, I would say it was almost painless, not a bad experience. I will be able to show more empathy when dealing with my patients next time… At least I can tell them “It is not painful lah, I tried it before. Trust me!”

Someone said: “You will not know how the patient feels unless you are doing the same thing as him or her!”, I agreed.
